Visited in '09, I see where this area has been spiffed up a bit, but be sure to wear close toed shoes and mosquito repellent - and watch out for snakes! This is an OLD graveyard dating way on back to the early 1800's, perhaps even earlier. It spans several blocks and the condition seems to be location dependent. Some areas have been pretty much lost to woods except you can spot old ironwork grates & fences & tilted, toppling tombstones. In other areas it is well kept up, but shabby compared to the VA National cemetery across the street! Despite that, the inscriptions are always interesting, and often you can read how the people died, which is pretty cool and interesting. Of interesting note as well is the large number of infant & children graves which reflects the state of medical care back in the Colonial days. Many died. A really nice graveyard to visit & get photos and/or rubbings (if allowed), but there again: be ready for walking in some pretty rough woodsy areas with their ticks & bugs if you want to explore it thoroughly.
